winniebagel Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Looks like a Porkfish (Anisotremus virginicus). Peaceful schooling fish that would appreciate a big tank cause they grow to about a 1', 1' 1/4". They also tend to nip at crabs, shrimps, snails, ect. so not a good candidate if you're keeping any of those. I've caught bunches of these fish out off the coast of Florida and they can get pretty big.
Kogut Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Yeah... Better left to the oceans and public aquariums, IMO.
Deon Posted July 11, 2005 Author Posted July 11, 2005 do they reak havoc in an aquarium setting? Is that why they are better left to the oceans
Kogut Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 They're just so big! A 1'+ long fish that schools would need a large amount of swimming room, first of all. It would eat a lot and produce a lot of bio-waste. Hell... It would probably smack into a lot of corals and knock things over all the time in a smaller setting. I can't vouch for their reef-friendlyness, but I wouldn't even bother w/ a fish that big, personally.
