kappa
I found this guy while rearrangeing my rocks. What is this guy called? size: 5mm Link to comment
Caesar777
How large or small is it? Do you have a side view? Link to comment
genuck
does it retract in the light? i have smth similar to that and have seen a few others on here too. if it's the same thing so far they have been harmless and not reproductive. Link to comment
Caesar777
Does it have a skeleton like those small Atlantic cup corals? (Like a sun coral, Tubastrea.) Or is that just a white body? Link to comment
reef n ale
I have a couple of those in my sandbed. Never caused any trouble, though I never found out exactly what they are. They come out at night, and don't like light at all. Caesar777; Mine are just a body from what I can tell. They appear very "worm-like" in the way they retract. Tube anemone maybe?? Caesar777
Strange. Try RC; maybe Dr. Ron won't verbally abuse you in the process of IDing it. Link to comment
Pet-Lover
My guess is that its glass coral i seen those before but just a lighter color... Link to comment
kappa
Yep, seems like it does not like light, and expand itself when it is away from light. It does not have a skeleton because I blasted it with a small eye dropper, and it moved quite easily. It is about 5mm in size. Haha, DR Ron. Link to comment
Caesar777
Well, he likes to sort of, uh, attack people for no reason... Link to comment
kappa
No harm done, so I am going to keep this guy. Link to comment
digitalsteve
it looks like a rock anemone to me Link to comment
kappa
Another photo. More and more of these guys are appearing on the same rock. This one is almost a dime in size! Link to comment
minimalist
If they're spreading real fast, that's not a good thing. Try to get a positive ID if this is the case. You don't want to just let it consume your tank only to find out later that it's a pest. Link to comment
Caesar777
Yes, I second the idea of eradicating them. They're a b**** to get rid of, especially when there are so many of them. Link to comment
kappa
Hmmm, I am going to isolate this rock and joe;s Juice every one of them. Thanks for the encouragements. Link to comment
FragMaster
APTASIA PEST ANEMONE. Use Lemon juice to inject them with. Inject the directly in the cap. Link to comment
kappa
Aiptasia's have symbiotic algae, this guy seem to hide in the cracks and live in caves in the dark areas which is the part that confuses me. Link to comment
daFrimpster
not aiptasia. Possibly majano anemone. not much better... Link to comment
FragMaster
no....it IS aptasia. TRUST ME. It is patrialy clear with brown and gold highlight swith a hint of white bands right? Hides out in crevases. and no they are not soley symbionic! They need to eat to live. They eat what you feed your tank so they can live most anywhere in it with VERY MINIMAL light. Majano pest anemones look like this.( conmpletely different spiecies and look.) http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i3/aipta...ia_majano_2.JPG This is aptasia: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i3/aipta...ns/aiptasia.jpg And here is alink to where thes came from and ho wto take care of them ( as in killing them) http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i3/aipta...impressions.htm 10 second google search. 1st hit.
