Salt... AGAIN?. yep

The continuing saga of salt.

 

I have posted a couple times about salts and thought I would just post this. I mixed up a 2 gallon batch of Bio Sea yesterday, I kept it strongly aerated and got my SG at 1.024, I tested pH, 8.6, KH 5, Ca.... an anemic 220.....

I just did the same thing..... I got Ca 300. Dkh 12 Ph 8.3-4

 

what gives? how long did you wait before testing?

I waited close to 30 hours. The first batch I had mixed at a dKH of 12 but it dropped over the next 48 hours to 9 but my Ca didn't come up until I started dosing with SeaChem Reef Complete and Reef Calcium. The first batch my pH was over 8.6 and I had all readings verified by the LFS just incase my test kits were off.

What brand of test kits?

I use Hagen and if I don't like the results I verify it with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals or SeaChem. The LFS uses Salifert.

FWIW, did you try a similar test with a different salt also? perhaps it could be your water source or the fact that you are only mixing 2 gallons? I did 5 gal.

I have ME in my 72 and although I haven't done a water change it mixed up very nicely, Ca was 380 and pH was 8.4
