Protein skimmer on NanoCube 12DX

Has anyone fitted a protein skimmer into a new style 12DX nano-cube?

 

I have one (Lee's) installed in a 12 OG and am considering upgrading the hood to the DX style.

 

But I am not sure I can get the skimmer to fit in to the newer hood. The splashguard shield extends back over the fan hole where the skimmer tank sticks thru.

 

Looking for anyone who has been down this path. Pictures or links would be great

There is a thread somewhere from one of the guys at nanocustoms about an upcoming protein skimmer option. I have a 12gDX and I'm holding out for that option.
