Benj420
Here are some pics of my DIY 5.5 gallon nano. Let me know what you think. I will post more photos as I go if there is any response. Not too bad for all hand tools and a 30 year old router. Link to comment

ross76053
Hey, nice work...I'm likin' it so far. First I thought, "Why didn't he finish the back of the base?". But it makes sense now....easy removal....don't have to worry about the base filling up with water in case of a spill... Sorta wish I'd done mine that way. I really like it. Link to comment
Benj420
Well, I didn't put a back on the base because I wouldn't be able to get it past the L-Brackets. If you notice on the last pic of the first post were you can see them. They fit just above the bottom plastic of the tank, in the gap between the glass and wood. This prevents me from setting the tank into the base, you have to slide the base onto the tank. It works OK for that, but I'm still trying to devise a way to connect the base and hood in the back so that the hinge is supported. I've come up with a way to do it, but it's ugly, so I'm working on a new method. This is just the first try, and I have decided I would change a few things on the next one, such as: alternative to metal corner brackets lid support without a back piece make the inner hood better, the supports for the plywood top are just too big not use plywood, it's oak, but still plywood. find a new location, because the original plans of it fitting under my kitchen cabintes won't work with a hinged top. get better tools (a table saw would do wonders) Thanks, and I will post more as I go. Also, I'm looking for a source for a 2x32w retro kit. I think I'm going to get a 2.5 gallon and use the bookworm lights there. Even with 3 of them I would only get about 7 watts per gallon, and with the 32's I would be getting 11.5 per gallon (I know that watts per gallon isn't a very accurate test, but it's all I have to go by) Anyone know where to get the 2x32 kits? I think that next DIY project is going to be an acrylic headboard/tank. Twins Guy, Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Link to comment

loganj
I just ordered a 2x96w retro from www.ahsupply.com for about $180.00 with bulbs. They have the best prices on PC fixtures and retros I have found to date. You might check them out...see what you think. Logan J Link to comment
Twins Guy
ahsupply seems to be a very solid little company. unfortunately they don't carry 32W bulbs and 36s are too long for that beautiful little hood! Link to comment
