tyh
how do u grow microalgae to combat nitrates? Link to comment
Crakeur
If you don't have anything in your tank that will eat the macro, just put it in the tank and watch it grow. The caulerpa in my refugium grows at the rate of about a handfull or two a week. Constantly pulling it out, rinsing it off to keep my pods and stars and anything else that might be in there and then feeding the tangs in the office tank with it. Link to comment
Spencerx
i think he wanted to grow mIcroalgae. maybe it was a misspellng though, because most people dont like microalgae (coralline the exception). maybe you could clariffy?? Link to comment
Crakeur
I assumed he meant macroalgae. If he means the corralline, there are some ideas we can all toss out. Link to comment
tyh
i meant those algae that convert nitrites to nitrates.... also, how do u grow coralline algae?? just by dosing calcium? Link to comment
Crakeur
if you had corralline on your live rock when you started, than you should at some point see some corralline start to grow on the glass, in darker areas. Regarding the macro algaes, head to inlandaquatics.com or just about any other online retailer and look under plants or algae and you will find at least one algae for sale. If you didn't have any corralline on the lr when you started, you can always purchase corralline booster pegs from ipsf.com but you probably don't need it. Link to comment
