Crakeur
I was thinking of plopping a pair of sea bunnies into my fuge. After reading about them on the ipsf.com site, I am intrigued by the idea of them reproducing and the offspring becoming a food source for the tank. Does anyone have any experience with sea bunnies or sea hares? Link to comment
ajroahkni
I've got them in my tank. Approximately every week, they'll excrete these long threaded pods into the water column from their backsides, which I assume has something to do w/ reproduction (the poop looks different). Since I've always had them, I don't know the impact that they'd make to an established aquarium. John Link to comment
Crakeur
I had heard that keeping them in the reef itself wasn't such a good idea since both the bunnes and the offspring are susceptible to getting sucked into a strong current. The refugium would allow the bunnies to live and breed and once the babies hatch they would hit the reef and feed the livestock. Guess I'll be giving them a shot. Thanks for the response. ajroahkni
Lost one of mine to my ZooMed PS214. He/she squirmed into the gap by the flow controller. I believe that ipsf says that you need to scoop the egg threads from your fuge into the main tank and that feeds the main tank. These things are an eyesore - long, stringy yellowish/green strands that float @ the surface. Good luck w/ your shipment. John Link to comment
Crakeur
if the threads hatch, I presume they will be taken by the current into the main tank. Time will tell. Otherwise I might have a serious sea bunny issue. Link to comment
flaunt
just curious... wtf is a sea bunny? ??? Link to comment

cmoreash
hey john, got any new pics of your tank? I am really interested in how it's doing, i've been in love with that rock since you first posted. Link to comment
BustytheSnowMaam
Isn't it another word for a stomatella snail? My hermits (the striped and the zebra) eat mine from time to time- just enough to keep the population down. Tasha Link to comment

Got rid of some polyp rocks this weekend - hope it wasn't the one you were thinking about. Basically, my tank's purty much the same, except I've got rid of some LR, zoos - sent 'em back home (so to speak). If I get my hands on a digicam, I'll post some pics. BTW, anyone able to LMK about a good way to frag zoos on the fly? Wanna go get some, but don't want to "steal" LR. And, I'd be in my skivvies w/ facemask & fins while I do it. Thanks John Link to comment
cmoreash
just cutting them, or rippin off a patch works. you just gotta secure em in place. you can do that by drying the base for 30 or so seconds, then applying glue, hold 10 seconds or so, put back in tank. or for more natural, use some bridal veil, or somethin similar, and rubber band that over the frag, until it secures itself to the rock. good luck dude that must suck having to return all the cool stuff. how old are ya, john? just curious, i'm 16 btw Link to comment
ajroahkni
Cmoreash I'm speaking of being in the ocean to get things for my tank. So, it involves diving down, grabbing a rock, ripping the sucker off?, and placing it in a container...deal w/ attachment issues later. BTW, I'm a ripe 28, 12 yrs yr senior. And regretfully, w/ the mind of a potty-mouthed 8 yr old. Anywho, thanks for the info. If there's anything I can do for you...LMK. If you'd tell me how this wild zoo fragging is done, I'll try and get you some. John Link to comment
cmoreash
Well, that's what I'd do in the ocean if i was gonna give it a try. I'd just dive down, rip/tear/peel/cut/dynamite ()/whatever the polyps off of the rock, and put em in a container i brought. I don't know what'd work for you, but I am really fond of a type of water bottle called a Nalgene, cuz they are thick strong plastic, and have a big wide screw on lid. I usually transport live stuff in those, because I'm dumb and knock stuff over, etc. Ok that was a waste of keystrokes. Anyways, just dryin the base/bottom/whatever of your new trophies, and using a little bit of super glue gel should work fine. i've found that glueing is easiest out of water. Oh, and it's easier to glue stuff to dry rock, than to live rock/rock that's in your tank, cuz it won't have anything to repel the bond. Make sure it's not some evil toxic superglue either, I'm not sure what brands everyone else uses, hell i can't even remember what brand i use. Watch your fingers though, gluing your fingers together and with a frag attached can be gross, specially if its stinky like xenia. did that answer your questions? ??? sorry i ramble Link to comment
Satchmo
From ipsf.com: Let's get technical: Sea Bunnies have (we are not making this up) an erectile penis, which they wield with startling frequency. Food source, eh? Whatever. We know what your real motives are. Link to comment
Crakeur
Satch, what is up with the sudden run of sarcasm. Oh and ya busted me. I am getting the sea bunnies so I can get some reefporn on the market and make me some quick cash. All my money is going to the nano, how the hell else can I support my wife and child if I don't make porn? Link to comment

Crakeur
wielding penises with startling frequency should be a warning label that is tatooed on all boys once they reach the age of 12. Caution, child may wield penis with startling frequency once the age of maturity is reached. Please be advised that the child will do this alone and should, therefore, not be disturbed when wielding.
