BCOrchidGuy
you can buy cheap ballasts and bubls, like Home Depot etc. Thing is for all practical purposes try finding a MH bulb at one of those places that has a 6500k -10,000k bulb. The ballasts are cheap too but they are magnetic, most you order from Aquatic suppliers are silent electronic ones. Link to comment
Crakeur
check the bulb section. they have an aquarium lighting section and under mh bulbs they have them. the 70w hqi was $75. Think I paid close to $90 for mine. Link to comment
luv2jeep
Speaking from experience, I had a 75-Gallon with dual 250W MH's running off of magnetic ballasts. Magnetic ballasts WILL HUM! Just stand outside a quiet parking lot and listen to the lights ... and they are 20' up a pole!!! After having dual 250W magnetic ballasts and listening to them EVERY DAY ... I'll buy electronic ones next time! Just FYI ... P.S. - Add together the ballast hum, the pump noise, the fans in the canopy, the water movement, etc... every little bit you can do to reduce noise in a reef makes it more enjoyable and easier to fall asleep at night! MacnReef
I just looked at that website and the prices are not that cheap. If you go to: http://www.marinedepot.com/a_lt_mh_pfo.asp?CartId= you should find prices that are cheaper. Link to comment
