luv2jeep
I just upgarded my 10-gallon to a HelloLights.com 96W PC Quad. The light is GREAT, but the heat sucks! Will a glass top help or hurt me? I've always run open-top tanks, so I have no experience with heat reflection vs. trapped heat trade-offs. What is the verdict? My only other idea is build a taller hood to get the light further off the surface. If that doesn't do it, time to add a fan! -Craig Link to comment
Physh1
Okay, you could remove the glass but that may cause a condensation/moisture issue with your lighting. Too mch moisture will prematurely wear your bulbs and corrode nuts, bolts, etc. Not really too safe in general but that all depends on how high or how close the bulb is to the water. Overall, ditching the glass and raising the light to a 4"-5" level would be a safe bet. You would reduce the heat by letting the tank breath better and having your light source clightly elevated.
