D.I.Y. filter for X-mas?

I was trying to think of something to get for my 75gallon display reef for christmas this year. Tell me if this sound like a good idea or not.

 

I've got 2 Millennium 2000's/ 1 modified seaclone100/and 3MJ power heads.

I was thinking of getting a Life Guard Fluidized bed filterand and some Marc Weiss (funky old reef mud) and putting it in the filter along with some of the media that comes with the filter. Does this sound like a good idea? or just a waste of my time?

Also does any one know anything about the new (Seaclone150)

skimmers are they better than the regulars? Some what do you think?

how about a cpr hob refugium/algae scrubber or a real diy refugium? it should be cheaper and better looking imo.

Fluidized bed filters are more suited for fish only displays.
