Mnesarchus
In 3 or 4 months, I plan to upgrade my current 10g setup to a 30g high. I am going to keep my 2 x 55w PC's as Actinics and get a 20000k Metal Halide. How many watts should I get of MH for a 30g High, if I want to keep mostly LPS and softies? Link to comment
MrConclusion
I guess it depends on what kind of hood and cooling solution you'll have. If you have a small or moderately vented box canopy, I'd go 175watt. If you have a large or well-ventilated box, or a separate fixture, there ape plenty of people with 400 watts on tanks of that size. I'd want to have a good focused reflector, due to the large depth (surface to substrate) and short width (front to back) of the tank. Many fixtures have way too much spread to be efficient, but then again... with a 250 or 400 watt bulb you can afford to waste some light! Please get some good setup pics while you're assembling it, if possible. GOOD LUCK! Link to comment
MrConclusion
LOL I am such a good typist. Not claiming that some of you guys aren't apes, but I meant to say "There ARE plenty of people..." Link to comment
JIM27
For lps and softies I'd just go for a 175 or 250w MH. That would be fine and pretty cheap. Link to comment
