Jellyfish Outbreak?

My wife called me today and said there were a bunch of jellyfish dancing around in our nano reef tank.

Came home and looked at them mysefl and that's sure what they look like to me.

They hang out at the top of the water and swim up to the top really fast, then kinda float down....swim just like the jellyfish I've seen on the Discovery Channel.

They're VERY small, so it was hard to get a picture of them, but here it is (3 of them in the middle towards the top of the water)

How could they have gotten in there?

Thanks!jelly.jpg

hitchhiked with LR or coral. remember corals collected from the reefs are basically constantly submerged until you get it. lots of great fauna/flora can hitchhike in (some baddies too).

Do you anything that looks like this ? In that pic they are in the polyp stage. Your pic is probably of those hydroids in the medusa stage. I have had them appear in my tanks before, they usually don't last like long because of the powerheads.

I have been trying get some to change into the medusa stage so I could take them to school to look at them under a good scope. There is a small difference between a true jellyfish medusa and a hydroid medusa.

They won't cause any problems in your tank.
