carbonate hardness levels

What level do you prefer to maintain?

Some people keep it elevated, sometimes above 12dKH. The only reason for this that I can discern is for pH stability. If there's any other biological or chemical reasons I'd be interested in hearing about it, even if it's anecdotal.

Others keep it closer to "natural" values, i.e., 7-8 dKH. I'd imagine that the main reason for this is to replicate the coral's native environment as closely as possible.

If you have any interesting observations that arose from changing from one to the other, it would be interesting as well. If you do relay a story like this, please include some other parameters (particularly calcium) to help with discussion.

Note: dKH is a dynamic variable; If you shoot for a value that overlaps 2 poll categories, pick the range that applies to your tank's range. You can also pick more than one choice, if that applies.
