Cycling a Barebottom Nano?

I'm setting up my new tank this week, and am thinking about going barebottom. It's a stock cubeDX.

 

Is there any difference in the cycling process? Normally I would put the sand in for a week or so before the LR but since no sand should I just start with the rock? The rock I have is from my old nano which I took down almost a year ago, and has been in a friends 225 since then, so it has tons of life, and I'd like to get as much of the cycle done before adding the rock to avoid massive die-off.
