reefmania
I bought a used overflow filter and skimmer that was in a well-established tank. It was pretty well encrusted with algae and other stuff. My question is, should I give it a good cleaning or is this stuff good for a new tank set up? thanks, Randy Link to comment
MrConclusion
If it's old and crusty, it's probably not great bio-stuff, but some of the algae probably contains spores or whatever it needs to get started again. The question is... is this something you want in your tank? It probably won't make a huge difference so I'd clean it to the point that you get off whatever comes off easily. Then you can either relax or keep on neat-freaking it. Link to comment
Dave ESPI
Bleach and water in a bucket bath, and vinegear with some good ol elbow grease with at toothbrush and a poatato scrubber. Also "CLR" is decent. Ya can get it at any hardware store. Link to comment
