I have been away from my tank for 2 weeks and my friend watching the tank said he saw these strange things on the glass (besides the algae that he hasn't cleaned off). They look like eggs. I think they have been on the glass for only two days or so. What is this? Has anyone had this happen?

If they are snail eggs how long is the gestation period?

10 gallon with:

red legged hermit crabs

cleaner shrimp

clownfish

sixline wrasse

various zoanthids, mushrooms, and polyps

I assume something from the liverock or one of these guys did it:

margarita snails

nerite snails

astrea snails

you could try setting up a small pico tank (.75 or 1 gallon), 35 bucks, and have them hatch in there and see what they turn into. That way if it's beneficial you can let it live and grow, if not, you can squish it and call it a day. :) Very interesting though, that's a cool pic you took, try RC for ID.

How big are they and can you see anything inside them? Might be interesting to setup a pico and see. I'm w/ dragon about trying reefcentral. Much larger community.

Thanks for the RC tip. I have yet to see these things in person but my friend watching the tank said, "They're about half the size of a drop of water." Difficult to tell the size by the picture, so don't know if that helps.

I won't be back home for two weeks, so i'm planning on just leaving them for now.

well unless you have a male wrasse or a male clown there just gonna die. They need to be fertelized by a male. They are definately not crab eggs. I dont think they are clown eggs either.

snails lay their egs either in a spiral cluster or just a cluster joined together by a thin mucus not seperate. They could be snail eggs though?

Yep they are snail eggs probably from the nerites. I found some good info from a specialist in that genre.

Cerith snails lay thier eggs in a spiral pattern with a mucus membrain, Turbo snails lay thier eggs in clusters with a Mucus membrain,Astrea snails do the same, Cowns lay thier eggs in clutches bunched together,

Wrasse's do the same. I said they still could be snail eggs because I havent seen every type of snails eggs. BTW why do I make you laugh? Because you didnt know what they were and had to post the question on here, and then asked a specialist to find out? Or because you were to lazy to use the SEARCH button? Look what I found In only 3 seconds..... http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/sep...2003/invert.htm

THE spiral pattern http://pansy-paws.com/aquarium/reef%20cleanup.htm

THE mucus membrain that holds them together. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/snailreprofaqs.htm
