lbfc
I'm interested in propigating some buttom polyps. The guy at the local store said to take them off the coral with a razor blade. Does that sound right? Link to comment
SaltyDawg
ONLY IF THEY ARE A SEA MAT POLYP!!!! if they are individual true zoo's they will die. the best way is to put them in a high flow area and place somthing next to them to spread on to. Link to comment
yoshiod9
i usually use a pocket knife and a pair of diagonal wire cutters to chip away at the rock underneath the polyps i want to frag out. you can do it the old fashioned way like me or you can buy a dremel with the diamond cutting wheel and use that. i haven't had a single frag die or lose polyps on me. i have used this method on all the zoos/palys that i have so you shouldn't have any trouble at all. just remember that the zoanthid family has a palytoxin in it which can cause serious harm so remember to wear protective eyewear, wash off your tools and towels and don't touch your eyes/nose/mouth. oh and keep your mouth shut as well. SaltyDawg
Only 2 types of zoos have a playtoxin in their body.Actualy I dont even think they are classified as zoanthelia, I think they are classified as paliothoa maybe? and none of them are knowingly sold in the coral trade. Both types I beleive are also a seamat polyp. They are brownish red and have a mat that conects all the polyps together. Link to comment
