lighting option?

i have heard some people try to mimic more natrual timing enviornments by having their blue's come on first for a few hours then firing up everything else, is this really nessary? i wouldn't mind doing this for my cube but i know the wires going from the ballast to the lights are hardcore and i'm a little nervous just tapping into those things to install a timer and switch (just from the gague and how bad it would be to get fried by them).

 

if that really isn't needed for my tank then i'm probably just gonna not worry about it.

not necessary but it sure looks cool to have a tank under actinics in the wee hours!
