What are effective algae scrubber options for AIO tanks w/ back compartment only (no sump).

You can probably DIY something with a breeder box like this:

Hang it off the rear, with a grow light and some plastic mesh to grow the algae from.  

 

But as for how effective it is... i have no idea, also would depend on how big your tank is.  

If its large, you can probably hang a refrigium and achieve the same the thing, but again, your probably better off growing chaeto in it as its a lot less messy when you need to "mow" the lawn so to speak.
