Pjanssen
found these guys swimming on top of some sand that I had removed from the tank and rinsed. Obviously I didn't kill everything cuz here they are, newly hatched, but in fresh water. looks like 2 different species, black one maybe some kind of pod? Any ideas? 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
they are only about 2-3 cm Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
I do not recognize most of those. Did you put the sand back in the tank with the critters? Quote Link to comment

Pjanssen
Some research suggest the top ones may be some species of bristle worm, but they don't look anything like the bristle worms I've experienced in the past. Quote Link to comment

Pjanssen
Yep. I'm going with mosquito larvae on the first pic. Thanks @mcarroll for the pics to help me confirm. Still working on the black ones. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
decided to just rinse sand again with super hot tap water, after pouring excess water and larve into freshwater tank, of which the freshwater fish seemed a little grateful. hopefully I don't awaken tomorrow to a house of mosquitos! I'd really like to be able to reuse this sand 1 Quote Link to comment
