Questions; 

 

how many hours can saltwater nitrifying bacteria stay alive in saltwater - in a closed bag, but with air? versus a bucket? and how much difference does having a source of organic ammonia make?

 

Or is this a 'how long is a piece of string' question.

Not so much hours, but weeks (some might say months).  No need to worry about the bacteria.
