Do sea fans shed like toadstools?

My sed fan hasn't opened in a couple days.  I added a new bag of sand without rinsing and it clouded up my tank.  I thought maybe it was still mad from that, but this morning it looks like it's slothing off something.  I was thinking maybe they shed like toadstools.  Parts of it are flowering now.

I did take some pictures, but not sure how good they will come out.

Some of them do indeed “shed”. Mine tend to grow some algae during that time, that is easily blown off along with the “shed”.

They do, my corky sea finger recently did and closed up for a few days. I find them take quite a bit of flow so I'm sure that will help in the process.
