Dying GSP?

I just picked up a GSP yesterday and the polyps were out this morning but later today I checked back on it and the polyps were closed and a large part of it became black and hard. Is it dying and if not any ideas what it is?

GSP, for how hardy of a coral it is, does take a while to open up after it’s been disturbed. It’s probably still getting used to the tank. As long as your major parameters are good and the tank is free of any crazy chemicals, it should be fine. If you have snails or crabs around such as that cerith snail back there, one might have crawled over it.

The purple color is the normal color of its mat. That's what it looks like when it's closed. The really black portion is probably a bit of exposed rock.

Your tank looks pretty new. It may not be liking that, or the possible lack of nutrients. Check your nitrate and phosphate- you want at least 5ppm nitrate (if not more, since that's a soft coral) and 0.03ppm phosphate.
