no nitrates in my new 2.5g

Hello all,

 

I tested my nitrates last night and it is showing zero, hmmmmm. I started this 2.5 gallon 3 days ago. I added 3 pounds of LR and 1 inch of sand that was in my old 38g. The thing is the sand was sitting in a inch of water for 3 days and figured I would have had allot of die off. Will it take a few days or weeks to see a nitrate problem? I just cant believe my nitrates are at zero. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

 

Is it safe to put something in my tank, polyps, shrimp, crab ???

Do you mean nitrites? You will see nitrite build up in a few days usually but not any nitrates for a few weeks.

 

The process goes like this: waste usually starts off as ammonia, converted to nitrite, then to nitrate.
