Djm4ng0
Hi Nano-Reef community I’ve been noticing these red hairs growing off of my GSP frag. The coral hasn’t opened up in about 2 days and am wondering if it’s some kind of algae or pest that is dangerous? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the low quality. Hard to tell, but kinda looks like some macroalgae maybe? When you touch it, does it react? Does it close at night? Quote Link to comment

Does it close at night? No they’re just red hairs that are fluorescent in blue light no reaction to touch at all. I did a hydrogen peroxide dip for about 1 mins and a half and the whole coral started bubbling up. Could this be some kind of pest or bad algae? Quote Link to comment

M. Tournesol
It depend, when in hight amount it can harm coral by suffocating them. The first cause of removal is that people find them unsightly. It will surely take some of the nutrients in the tank and require some trimming (if your tank is a nano, it shouldn't be too much work). I personally do not have a problem with it. It helps my pods population and my fishes have no problem with them. Quote Link to comment

M. Tournesol
I should add that the more you wait and the more it will be difficult to remove all the algae. Indeed, with time, the algae might propagate all over your aquarium. If you want a "spotless" reef tank, you should remove them as soon as possible. Quote Link to comment
