Hud
I am going to be cycling a fowlr pico tank and I am going to be putting sand and rock in it from an estabilished tank Would that cycle it or do I need to add ammonia and bacteria to it Quote Link to comment
M. Tournesol
In this case, it should be just considered as a tank transplantation. Your tank will be immediately cycled. maybe a microcycle because of die off from the rock and the sand transport/disturbance. 3 Quote Link to comment
Hud
So I just add some sand and rock and wait a day and it’s cycled Quote Link to comment

Using rock from an established tank is great and shouldn't cause a cycle unless you leave them out of water. The sand on the other hand, most would recommend take only a cup or 2 and seed new sand with it. Old disturbed sand releases a lot of nasty stuff. 3 Quote Link to comment
Hud
I have one more question it’s a 2.5 gallon aqueon tank if I got a small tiny goby is that filtration good enough for it I also have a small sponge filter in it I know what your going to say that’s to small. But I will put it in my 20 gallon once it starts to grow or get stressed all I won’t to know is if the filtration is good enough Quote Link to comment
Murphs_Reef
You could put a yellow clown goby or a neon goby in there.. I would consider a shrimp instead as these smaller fish are less active. A shrimp might be more attractive option? 1 Quote Link to comment
Hud
Ok thank you very much Quote Link to comment
Murphs_Reef
I always like a cleaner shrimp. Very playful looking guys. Don't get me wrong a yellow clown goby is a great fish. But spends a lot of time sitting on rock. Quote Link to comment
Hud
Yeah I like them to I have one in my 20 gal I but I don’t have the money right now to buy a 50 dollar shrimp but I think I’ll get a small fish and a couple hermit crabs thank you again 1 Quote Link to comment

WormLicker
Second the shrimp!! They are so fun to watch, and very friendly ! My skunk cleaner is the star of my aquarium Quote Link to comment
Firefish15
Shrimp are great until you need to feed corals. Then they’re ravenous disturbers of the peace. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Hud
You can put a skunk cleaner shrimp in a 2.5 ? Quote Link to comment
Murphs_Reef
Wow $50 is around £35... That's expensive. I pay around £10 for a shrimp and £1 for snails, some of you guys have it so expensive.. I feel for you man. Quote Link to comment
banasophia
Yeah I’m not a fan of the shrimp myself… Definitely a fan of the yellow clown gobies though! 3 Quote Link to comment

Hud
Um also do you need a special light for macro algae like can you use any freshwater light led Quote Link to comment

Make sure it's capable of supporting good plant growth before you try it out though Lots and lots of good options on amazon for cheap. 1 Quote Link to comment
Hud
Ok great would a the light from the aqueon 2.5 betta tank kit work Quote Link to comment
Hud
I also have a Mingdak led clip on light would that also work from Amazon Quote Link to comment
Jaren45
Those will most likely not grow plants, no Something with 1w or higher LEDs, a real grow light like kessils, twinstar, fluvals, finnex, etc 1 Quote Link to comment
Hud
Ok thank you very much Quote Link to comment
Tired
I wouldn't get a neon goby, they need some hopping space. Get a trimma goby instead. 1 Quote Link to comment
Hud
Ok thanks I’m not sure what I’m getting but I’ll keep that in mind I was thinking maybe a clown goby but I have to see what my lfs has so maybe a trimma goby Quote Link to comment
