Heidi’s20long
I’ve notice this in a few spots of my 20 long. I figure it is some sort of algae, perhaps Dino? However all the pictures that I seen it’s brown and this is white. Alk= 9.3 (higher then what I like) phos =.03 nitrate= 10-25 mixed reef with zoas, acan, blasto,Lepo, small torch, monti i started adding phyto to gets some nutrients. I do add micro bact 7 every other day. Sss 150 reef octopus skimmer runs only 11pm till 11am 2 kesssil a360 11am-9pm Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
My initial thought was Bryopsis, but idk now with the tips of the algae. Quote Link to comment

Dino a brown stringy slime you can blow off with a turkey baster. photos under white would help. It might be some tripe of turf algae. Quote Link to comment
Tired
Don't dose Vibrant. Vibrant should be a last resort when other things don't work, as it harms your beneficial organisms and non-invasive algaes as well as the pest algaes. And if that is bryopsis, IIRC Vibrant won't hurt it anyway. Definitely need a pic under whites. Looks a bit like bryopsis to me as well, but that wouldn't explain why it's white. I figure it is some sort of algae, perhaps Dino? Don't freak out. Definitely not dino's. Hardly anything else worth worrying about. Just pull it out (with your fingers) and make sure your herbivorous cleanup crew is up to snuff. It would be interesting to have some microscope pics of it. FYI a microscope and a lux meter can be had for around $10 each online. A toy microscope is all it takes...they are functional. If you spend $50 or so, you can get a basic REAL microscope, which will also be very nice. Obviously you can spend more if you like....high end microscopes are REALLY cool, but totally unnecessary for us. We don't really even need higher power....I get by nicely on a 400x student scope. Would be nice to have a daylight picture of it....could change some of what I'm about to say... Phosphates are still very low and nitrates are pretty high. I worry that phosphates will dip to zero in a nitrate-fueled growth spike and you won't notice it....0.03 is almost zero already. If you're doing anything to remove dissolved nutrients from the system, including extra bio-media and extra additives, stop. I would also consider adding some liquid phosphates such as Flourish Phosphate. Keep levels ≥0.10 ppm at least for several weeks. Aeration is always helpful and the filtration is very light. If not, check today with a lux meter app and post the maximum reading you get. But also order yourself an inexpensive handheld lux meter...the results are much more reliable and standardized with a handheld. Just for reference....Bryopsis looks like palm leaves by comparison....if anything that's just a dying or dead tuft of hair algae....or the white is coincidence and it's just live hair algae. Bryopsis example: Here's a hair algae example (foreground tuft) for comparison (often Derbesia sp.): This article is great...just stumbled on it: https://reefs.com/magazine/hunting-with-a-microscope-part-i/ Quote Link to comment
