Littlereefer123
Hello! I'm new on this forum. I've got already a freshwater tank, but I would like to start a saltwater tank. It's going tot be a 2.5 gallon cilinder reef. Filtration: life rock, no life sand Airpump: Eheim airpump 100 Light: led? Aquamedic sunspot? Heater: hydor Theo 25 watt Lifestock: - Sexy shrimp (3) - little goby - pom-pom crab - a snail corals and macroalgae: - sinularia - green Star polyps - xenia? - buttons? - caulerpa? - red algae? I've got a few questions for you: 1. Is the lifestock possible for a beginner on saltwater tanks or not? 2. Could i hold a citron or a long Fin goby? 3. If Ik hold a long Fin goby, could I hold in this tank (with sexy shrimps) a pistool shrimp tot? 4. Is the airpump powerful enough? 5. Do you've got experience with good, budget lights for a pico? If you got suggesestions, please place it in this topic. 1 Quote Link to comment
Chadicus Meridius
NR I personally would not put a fish in 2.5 gallons, but I’m not sure what goby would survive in a 2.5 gallon I personally would want it to Thrive, so I’d get a bigger tank, but the inverts should do fine. I would invest in an ATO because evaporation will happen like crazy In a 2.5 gallon. when water evaporates the salt doesn’t o the salinity would increase a lot in a short time. hopefully someone else chimes in on filtration, and feasibility of a goby in a 2.5 gallon welcome 1 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
Trimma Gobies would work if you can find them. Also red headed gobies 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I used a small heater, a hydro pico powerhead and an Asta 20 for the light. if you are dead set on a fish I would go with a tiny goby such as a Green Banded Goby or a Citron definitely no long fin or pistol shrimp..... no space for that. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Hello WV Reefer! Thank you for your comment! I would really like to have a fish in this tank. Is a clowngoby or a neon goby also a option? 41 minutes ago, Ratvan said: Trimma Gobies would work if you can find them. Also red headed gobies Hello Ratvan! Trimma's would be nice. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Chadicus Meridius
Get a refractometer and a calibration fluid to test salinity 1 Quote Link to comment

Trimma's would be nice. -A clown or neon goby would work. -you should top off with RODI water -a lid would help evaporation and any jumpers but it’s a preference, not required. 1 Quote Link to comment

Is that an option for my tank? If it were me, I’d say no.....The minimum size tank for that fish is listed at 10 gallons. They also live under the rock work which can be an issue in a tiny tank. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
neonstingray
Is there a specific reason you want to do a 2.5 gallon as a beginner? Tiny tanks like that are far harder to manage and become more of an experiment than an enjoyable hobby. A 10 or 15 gallon would be easier to manage, allow you to have a fish, and not really cost any more in equipment. 3 Quote Link to comment

Hello neonstingray! I want to make this aquarium, because I haven't got enough space for a larger tank. I know it is more difficult than a larger tank, but i would like to try this. 1 Quote Link to comment

Have a look at the Pico Jar contest that was run a few years back, most were 2-3g cookie jars should give you an idea for equipment and livestock 1 1 Quote Link to comment
