I 100% disagree with genetically modifying animals..  what if they get loose in the wild and destroy the entire ecosystem ?

Any nonnative animal has the potential to mess up (but not destroy) an ecosystem if released outside of its native habitat. If released in its native habitat, it would likely be outcompeted by the non-modified version. After all, yellow tangs are the size they are because that's the best size for a yellow tang to be, meaning a hypothetical mini tang would be worse off than its normal-sized compatriots.

Besides, selective breeding, including domestication, is a form of genetic modification. Domestic animals do in fact have a potential to mess up ecosystems if released en masse (look at feral cats, goldfish, and pigeons- pigeons aren't wild animals, they're the descendents of domestics), but that doesn't mean that we should stop domesticating animals because they might mess something up. It means we shouldn't release nonnative animals. Non-genetically-modified animals have just as much potential to cause damage if released in the wrong place.
