Kenya Tree Coral

How do I propagate? Can I just cut a branch off and put it on another rock? Mine has gotten quite large lately and I would like to "trim" the tree!;)

Yep, the Kenya Tree Coral (Capnella imbricata) frags itself. When it grows bigger, it frags so much that you'll regret you fragged it youself.

So... Did I ask how to frag this baby or what? Yesterday I got the scapel out and was ready to frag the tree. Low and behold, as you all have mentioned, there it was! Fragged its self!!:woot:

they require low lighting

Yes, they are like weeds...they release pieces in to the current and then it grows where it lands. I have to pick them out everyday almost~

I saw a white Kenya tree coral that looked real pretty, but I refused to buy it, fearing it might be severely bleached, and I don't know what a bleached coral looks like except from what I have red, that they turn white. Or maybe it was a spagetti leather... In any case, if I bought one of these, surely I would never know if it was bleached if that was its natural color, I am scared to attempt it. I don;t wanna buy something that's unhealthy. I need a non-sales person escort to accompany me to an LFS.

Hey, does anyone want any Capnella (Kenya Tree coral) frags? They are great looking corals. Mine too have fragged four time by itself, and I am up to my a-hole in frags. Instead of destroying them, maybe pass them out to fellow-reefers. That way we can propagate aquacultured corals. I saw Dr.Fostersand Smith selling capnellas for > $40 a piece. What a rip. I have heard though that they dont ship well unless packaged properly. Anyone in DC area want a frag? Local pick-up only. Prefer trade if possible. Great new coral for beginenrs. I can have one for you anyday! Will post a pic if interested.

Hey reefer, sorry I didnt respond earlier. Give me a few months to get my act together. I am starting a frag out tank and it will take a little bit longer to cycle. I will then frag out some pieces and take an inventory. I'll be sure ot post to this site again.

Newbie527, are your corals ready to frags or are those listed, frags that you wish to trade. I will take anything ready to go. What kind of xenia do you have? Pulsing? Willing to take anything just to get these damn kenya tree(capnella) frags out of my minibow. I have six frags now. The kenya tree keeps dropping branches yet looks healthy as ever. Let me get a picture tomorrow when the lights are on and you can tell me if you are interested.

Mine are fraging themselvs in my 10 and its kinda annoying, I believe I read somewhere that they soak up some dissolved nutrients, they are weeds like eveyone says
