Chris Beddows
Hi My dwarf lionfish went for my hermit crab... I belive this is quite unusual? From what I have researched I have not ever come across this.... Simba is a very active and hungry guy but I have noticed him trying to eat the hermit 3 times now. He is well fed and will feed on both frozen and live ghost shrimp easily. Never had a problem feeding him. The hermit is big enough to have replaced its shell 5 times now... Any thoughts? j.falk
Lionfish are opportunistic predators. They are constantly looking for food and can open their mouths really wide for some surprisingly large food items. Your hermit will be safe provided it stays within a shell. If it gets caught out in the open without a shell then it could potentially be eaten...but I wouldn't worry too much about it as that rarely happens unless the hermit outgrows it's shell and can't find a bigger suitable one.
