Reefercolumn
Hi every back from a 10 year break. Starting up a new 15 column tank got my live sand rock aquaclear 70 with skimmer inside and DIY surface skimmer aqamai wave maker. Been cycling 3 weeks now every going good so far have a blood orange misbar clown a sexy shrimp and a hi fin goby one turbo and two margaritas and a blue and red leg hermit. Originally bought a fluval sea 3.0 I love the light but quickly realized after going to the local Los that I really wanted to grow some lps and others and this light would not cut it. So I decided on a AI hd prime. But now a couple people I have talked to say I need the hydra 26. Quick question do you think a single prime hd will allow me to grow anything or should I get the hydra 26 it just seems like so much light but I need to penetrate 20" because it's a cloumn.i am mounting the light on top of the stock aqueon lid so it will only be 4 inches off the water. Any thoughts or tips appreciated.. . 2 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
The prime HD has a par of 100 at 24" depth. Now that may drop depending on the percentages you use but if you keep all low/mod light corals on the bottom it should be fine. 1 Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Welcome back @Reefercolumn, this looks like a really interesting setup! I haven't seen a tall column tank in quite awhile, I'm really looking forward to watching your reef build! Quote Link to comment
Reefercolumn
Went with the hydra 26? Drilled 2-2 1/2 inch holes in the hood that align with the bulb looks pretty clean. Definitely a big difference this thing is bright! Any suggestions on the settings for the spectrum what have people been using with sucess for sps and lps? 2 Quote Link to comment

Reefercolumn
There was a piece of of what seems like a sps that was on the live rock and a mushroom. The spa is a bright orange and the mushroom has neon green spots, not sure what either is if anybody could id them I'd appreciate it. Both of them look better after only a couple hours under the hydra I'm seeing polyps coming from the sps which I haven't seen before. 1 Quote Link to comment

Coinee
I've always seen these tanks and thought they'd be a bit of a pain because of the depth but yours is coming along great. I like the scape too, it kind of reminds me of vivariums people have for frogs/geckos; it is almost tree-like. 1 Quote Link to comment
