Of course they remove organic matter that can decay into nutrients, but I have heard they also remove some vital elements from the water needed by corals as well as food for smaller polyp NPS corals. slowngreen Posted October 11, 2018 Share Posted October 11, 2018 Id rather run one and just spot feed the coral. But I'm a heavy feeder to me fish so I prefer having a skimmer in place to help. If you are a consistent water changer then a skimmer isn't always needed.  1 Quote Link to comment
