Austintylerl
I have three colonies of hammer corals that look great. I have a frogspawn and torch frags that are looking not so great. Instead the polyps are outstretched as usual. I though euphys had similar care needs. How do they differ? lighting? Thanks Quote Link to comment
Clown79
What do you mean by outstretched as usual? What exactly is the difference? A pic would help. They have similar needs but while one may be happy the other may not be. Placement in the tank can also affect them Quote Link to comment
Austintylerl
Oops, I meant NOT outstretched as usual. Its a small 20 gallon tank, they are receiving the same amount of light, placed at the same level with same current. Does one prefer more or less light and or current? Quote Link to comment
Austintylerl
I also have two AI primes running blues violet and UV at around 80%, too much? Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Euphyllia doesn't like a lot of flow and prefers moderate light. Flow hits every area differently. Another issue is alkalinity fluctuations. Each type of euphyllia opens up differently as well Quote Link to comment

Depends how long they have been under that light. Mine are under 1 ai prime at those levels and it's a 25g. Quote Link to comment
Austintylerl
I have been bringing up ALK from 6-9. Quote Link to comment
specore
I would suspect it is not water quality if some look great and others not so much. I would try lower light and lower flow for those that aren't opening all the way and see what happens. Quote Link to comment
Austintylerl
OK, I reduced intensity by around 30%, I'll try that for a few weeks. Quote Link to comment
MSunkin23
I have moved my hammer coral about 4 times before it found a spot it liked. I thought parameters or lighting was off, but it ended up being very particular about the flow. Thought I was going to lose it, but now its doing great again. Quote Link to comment

I have this problem some times. Weird how it effects one coral and not the other. How fast did you raise the alk ? And how fast the the alk drop? Did the coral look bad with low alk or just after you started raising it. What is the alk now? What's your ca and mg? Quote Link to comment
