Something's wrong with my goby.

I just received a goby, and it has something really strange emerging from its fin. It looks to be a light brown curly strand. What is it? Is it harmful to my fish? How do i get this thing off

oops i accidentally made a mistake. The brown strand is emerging from my goby's gill not fin.

Could this possibly be gill curl? Just a thought. Somebody please help me treat my goby. I've done searches, but I cant seem to pinpoint the exact problem.

exactly what is coming out of his gill? can u get a pic?

 

is it a worm? or is it something stuck there?

 

where did u get the goby? can u take it back?

try searching under gill flukes. i have no experience with them but that sounds like what you have.

I'm not sure if they're worms or not? The brown curls are all coiled up. Kind of like a spring. There are 2 of them attached to a red part under the gill (I dont know much about fish anatomy).

I just did a freshwater dip, but I dont think anything happened. I'll probably try again in a couple hours or so.

 

Also, yes I can return the fish if needed, but I would really like to keep him, because he's pretty rare.

look under gill flukes, try google for the research. copper seems to be a common treatment, in a QT of course.
