Custom 17 Gallon setup vs Reefer Nano

Hey,

 

just wanted To get your thoughts, I’m planning a 17 gallon (24x12x14) that would rival a Red Sea reefer nano.

 

essentially here is my plan:

mr. aqua 17 gallon aquarium

ikea Besta stand 

oceanbox 10 Gallon sump

drilled bottom of tank for bean animal 

autoaqua smart ato micro

sicce silent 1.5

 

in Canada to source the above im

looking at around $1000.

 

similarly to source the Red Sea reefer nano in Canadian dollars I’m looking at $1300.

 

the nice thing about the custom setup is i can source all the parts slowly, I don’t need $1300 all at one time. 

 

You up think it’s worth the effort or should I just safe myself and buy the reefer nano? Or is there some other alternative?

 

ive been contemplating IM AIO’s but I feel like I’d always regret not having a sump... but it would be much cheaper...
