David T
Guys I am planning on converting my 28 g nanotube into a fresh water tank. I haven’t replaced any of the fish since the ate each other. I want to make this a cichlids tank. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Quote Link to comment
Ivery
I'd look at facebook freshwater pages. I joined a few to help me get into freshwater. Quote Link to comment
Martin Riggs
I would get a bigger tank. The price of tanks is cheap and your gonna need some rocks to keep the ph stable. Quote Link to comment
Kahmu84
Do some reasearch on the specific kind of cichlids, the African, and the central and south American cichlids. Quote Link to comment
Clown79
In a 28g only a few will be able to be placed in the tank and only certain breeds. The smaller ones. Cichlids are aggressive fish. But hardy. Clean the tank really well with vinegar and water. Get good substrate that is best for cichlids and best to do aquascaping with rocks, like holey Texas. They ruin live plants and pull out fake ones Quote Link to comment
Jake270
African cichlids, She’ll dwellers, Brevis or similis would probably be my first choice. Stay away from Mbuna, peacocks, haps and really any lake Malawi. Maybe a few tanginikan And if you dig around enough and have an amazing LFS some of the smaller lake Victoria Easy enough to do with your tank. Rocks and or shells depending. Don’t worry too much about PH most are tank raised and stability is more important. Now all that said you could have been meaning South American. But if it’s africans yeah we can help ya out Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Demasomi mbuna are my favourite same with the yellow lab. I had a male female pair, that look like t bar cichlids but the face was all red and eyes were blue. These 2 were gorgeous and very peaceful....until they bred. Quote Link to comment
CarolinaShoreReef
I would go with an electric blue acara or black convict (zebra) cichlids they’re so cool and they love to smile. You can also do a pretty angelfish like this. Do a sand substrate and get a dwarf spiny eel ? just make sure you’ve got plenty of structure and swimming space. Quote Link to comment
Jake270
A pair of apistogramas could be really nice too. What type of cichlids are you thinking? Quote Link to comment
Toxic enigma
Brichardi chiclids would be perfect in a tank that size, and one pair would fill that tank pretty quick Quote Link to comment
