Ok so ive been searching the boards and believe the bubbles coming from my sand bed is nitrogen. What is confusing me though is that my sand bed is only about 2.5''. So is this deep enough to filter nitrate. also the bubbles are only their during the day then go at night. this leads me to believe that it is down to algae. however my sand bed is spottless, just a few bits of coral graval covered in corraline. can somebody enlighten me.

Depending on how small the particles of substrate , you can create an oxygen free which could harvest the bacteria needed for the conversion. Are you sure the bubbles arent just more easly visible during the day?
