Light Recommendation

I am looking at a Red Sea Reefer 170.  The Deluxe version comes with a light but I can get a version without.  What light would you recommend for this tank?   I would like to look at costs for both options (I have a mini tide now and love it).

Nanobox Duo is what I went with...VERY, VERY happy with it...especially for a mainly LPS tank with a few easy SPS on top.

 

BUT if money was not an object, then I would have gone with ATI Hybrid fixture with T5's and Nanobox LEDs...OR maybe the Nanobox Quad Wide

Duo, Quad, Quad Wide, and Hybrid are all great options. It all depends on what you want to keep and how high you want to mount the light over your tank!

Mount will have to be via tank mount,  looking to set it up as a mixed reef  but with a good amount of sps at top, lps in mid and softies low light corals in bottom.  Plan on also adding gyre wave maker so will have some current

If I was set on a good amount of SPS, I'd do some sort of DIY bar, and hang the ATI Hybrid or Wide Quad off it.  

 

I am only doing a few SPS and I am using a DUO...but adding one of the custom Nanobox Beams to the rear as a somewhat inconspicuous supplement.  I am only doing this because aesthetics are the top concern due to tank location.

I’m runninga hydra 26 over my 170, mixed with sps near top.  Really happy, 

I have not tried anything else, or really need to atm.

 

I added an old prime on top as I had one gathering dust,  and reduced the overall hydra and prime intensity,  to get more of a full blanket coverage , not crazy light intensity. 

 

Hydra 26 on its own is still more than plenty enough though!

Thanks for looking at Nanobox again! Like others has said a few lights will work. 

 

For what I see in your current tank I don't think you need as much light as what some of the others recommend for your upgrade. A Duo or Quad will be just fine and both available with goosenecks. 

Here is a new video of my 170 with a Quad. I am setting a new tank up with same dimensions but this time with a Duo. Running a Quad on my tank below is overkill. I have a few SPS that enjoy the extra light but would do just fine with a Duo with the current placements.

 A duo would be overkill for his 14 gallon, but I believe he is looking at upgrading to a Reefer 170!

Came out wrong, I meant his current tank stocking. Looks like he enjoys a mixed reef!

Yeah I like the Duo plus M.  price point looks more in line also for me.  It's a little more than the Hydra but it also appears the LED's are spread out a bit more so I am thinking the tank coverage would be better.

Radion XR15 or 30 G4 Pro.  I just upgraded to the 15 myself and love it!  Depends on what you are planning to stock, but I'm migrating towards 80% SPS, so that was a big factor in my decision.
