oogie
I have my six gallon setup now for abuot 11 days. I have 10 lbs of Live Rock and 10 lbs of live sand with 32watt of smart bulb. Also I have one damsel in there. Today I checked for nitrate and it was very high. Is my tank cycled and ready for a water change? Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Sahin
If the ammonia and nitrite read at zero, then your tank is cycled. Give it a week more before adding anything, and try to get the nitrates down with the water changes. Link to comment
oogie
Thanks alot for your input sahin! Is it possible for six gallon tank to be cycled that quickly? Its ony been 12 days or so. Thanks again for your help fellow nano-reefer! Link to comment
Sahin
Quite possible. It all depends on how much death occured in the live rocks, and if the rocks are fully or partially cured. My cured came mostly cured and therefore I didnt even get an ammonia or nitrite spike, just a little increase of nitrates at the end of the week. Link to comment
mxpro32
when i first set up my 5 gallon i added a little bit of fully cured live rock and one damsel. it was fully cured with ammonia and nitrates at zero in about a week. so it can cycle pretty fast. if your nitrates are really high then your tank is not cycled yet. NanoReefer53
all part of the cycling process heh heh...no more nitrates for me though. I have a skimmer and a crocea clam taking care of that :beerchug: Link to comment
