HOB refugium converted to a skinny below sump?

I have a 130d RSM all in one that I want to add a refugium to, I found an old ecosystem HOB that I’m wondering if I can put it under the stand instead.  Thinking I could use the built in chiller tube connections  for input and output.   Since the eco hob does not have a waterfall return I pretty much have a  skinny sump box. Thinking I would pump water out sump and maybe use a aqua lift to maintain suction.  Any thoughts/issues?

Do you have a photo of the HOB you can share @zachjohnson65? If it's under the stand it sounds like you'd have to plumb it the same as if it were a sump, requiring an overflow and something to break the siphon in the event of a power outage.
