questionablereefing
Just to make sure the cycle was done, I added 3-4 drops of ammonia in to give something the bacteria could eat. After waiting a few days, ammonia showed up at zero.. but so did nitrates and nitrites... For the chemicals, all that is in is a standard HOB filter with one of those standard filters. I have also noticed a beige-yellowish crust forming on the rock. I don't know if they are diatoms, but this is growing off the rock (it looks like it has texture to it that doesn't allign to the rock's) and the color is much more different. Any thoughts on what's happening? Quote Link to comment
seabass
I would expect nitrate to go up (unless something is utilizing it like algae). The brownish stuff is likely diatoms, but might be another form of algae. It's probably time for a cleanup crew. 1 Quote Link to comment
