Zoanthid sponge (white)

Anyone have any experience with these? This wasn't present in my old tank. Should I be concerned?

The monti is recovering even though it looks terrible.

Could be a nasty one (as sponges go). If so, and you can do it... pull the rock out of the water and use a toothbrush to remove it.

I may just chisel it off with the zoas and manually remove each zoa. But the sponges will return if a small enough piece is left behind.

Actually, zoanthids can sit in open air for an hour or so right? Wouldn't that be long enough to kill the sponge?

I have the same type of sponge in my tank.  When it begins to grow between my zoas and irritate them, I take tweezers and rip what I can out.  It hasn't spread very fast though, so it doesn't concern me.
