VHO's need UV shielding?

So I was reading a passage in Borneman's book and he says DE MH and VHO's give off "significant" UV and appropriate sheilding is needed. Obviously, I'm aware of the MH UV risk, but I didn't even think about VHO's....and I don't see LFS with glass shielding.

 

Anyone ever run VHO's w/ or w/o glass?

i don't stay under the light too long tho (during maintenance). uri makes tanning bulbs along with their aquarium stuff but i wouldn't want to get tanned by actinics. :nerd:

 

maybe borneman's seen bulbs without the phosphorus coating in some places on the bulb (i.e. poor quality bulbs). the mercury vapor basically only generates uv which in turn glows the coating so i guess there could be a significant concern for uv if a couple of spots here and there had little or no coating. ???
