Shark Fighter
Simple question. Are 150W and 250W DE halide bulbs interchangeable? I was hoping someone could clear this up for me. I tried looking it up myself and found conflicting information. Background: I have a Hamilton Cayman Sun DE 250W metal halide pendant with an adjustable electric ballast. The fixture is left over from a bigger tank and seems too strong for my current 15 gallon aquarium with only 12" of water depth. I could just buy a new fixture, which I may do so I can run some radium bulbs, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary work if I could just swap it out with a 150W bulb. Obviously the ballast will work because it has a 150W setting, just not sure if a different bulb will fit in the housing. Link to comment
RayWhisperer
You will need another pendant. 150 HQI bulbs are shorter, and much thinner than 250's. Link to comment

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Now I just need to decide which option to go with. Link to comment
