Canadianeh
I have ever since bringing in aiptasia. How long should you QT liverock to observe to make sure it has no aiptasia? Link to comment
Newstead
I have caught a couple on frags and rock in just a few days. Inspect it carefully on all sides. If I find one I use a syringe and needle to inject lemon juice or kalk paste into it and epoxy over it. Then keep watching - I did that to one on a small rock with a mushroom on it, and a couple of days later one popped out a hole opposite of where I epoxied it. I hate those things! Link to comment
Clown79
Nope. I don't. Things can show up at any time. I just use aiptasia x on aiptasia. I've never had any major issues with liverock. I brush down any debris, i have dipped it in a bucket of Sw water to remove yuckies, examine it for aiptasia or algae, remove/treat and add to tank. Is this for an established or cycling tank? You could look into caribseas liferock. Its aragonite rock injected with bacteria. Looks like established liverock. Link to comment
ajmckay
+1 is this for a new tank or established tank? If it's for a new tank, and assuming it's the only thing in said new tank, then just add it because the DT would essentially be acting like a QT... You usually have a little time between adding the rock and the other animals to deal with any potential issues like hitch hikers. If your tank is already established then I would recommend making sure the rock is fully cured. Never trust a store/online vendor when they say that rock is fully cured. If you add rock that is anything less than 100% cured to your established tank you could experience an ammonia spike as dead things on the new rock (sometimes you can't even see it - deep in holes and such) decompose. You don't have to do much... Basically put it in a bucket of SW for like 2, maybe 3 days - test ammonia a few times during that time. If ammonia is undetectable then you're probably okay to add it to the DT. If ammonia is present you'll need to leave it in a bucket (might want to add a powerhead and a heater) and let it finish curing - between a few days to a week or more, depending. If it's uncured live rock then you definitely should not add it to an established DT. Cure it in a bucket, usually for multiple weeks. If you're interested in preserving life use a soft cycle method. Finally, if the rock is dry base rock then you can add it directly to your established DT immediately. I would hose it off thoroughly though to remove any dust/dirt/powder. Link to comment
Canadianeh
It is brand new tank with only one small xenia frag in it. My clown is still in QT with prazipro for one week and then paraguard for another week Link to comment
Clown79
If its uncured liverock it will cause a spike in the cycle and you will need to wait for it to process ie: ammonia to nitrite, to nitrate. Link to comment
Canadianeh
Just a couple of morning shots. I added a small live rock last night just to help in "seeding". It is the one on the right corner. Link to comment
