GobyMan
Just added a Hagen mini to my 5 1/2. The plan is to run it empty (no media) except after water changes for a couple hours. I was thinking of putting in some floss/foam to catch the larger particles that seem to be there after a w/c, or pruning session. I also figured the increased flow wouldn't hurt...there has got to be some serious random currents in this tiny tank now.... Does everyone think this is ok, or am I going to start a nitrate factory?? vanillabox
I don't think you are making a nitrate factory, unless you already have an ammonia factory (overstocked tank). If you are worried about the filter competing with the live rock, then don't use any media, but I see no problem with the occassional use. Link to comment
lizbeth
I use the sponge and floss in mine quite a bit. I just take it out and rinse the crud out of it every few days with hot tap water. Link to comment
