jshev
I have been reading a lot of threads regarding power heads. I am making my own so I can get some more advice. I am currently leaning towards Jebao RW-4. I have a 10 gallon IM fusion. Stock pump. It is still in the cycle process so no fish or corals yet. Is the RW-4 going to be to powerful? It seems small, I like that. Also, herd it can be very strong but I have also herd even on the lowest setting it might be to powerful. I want a powerhead that gives me control, is very small, and gives me the flexibility to have a verity of corals and fish. Thanks in advance for the advice. Link to comment
ReefWeeds
Personally I think the rw-4 is going to be way too strong for the IM 10. I have two in my 66 and they move a lot of water. I had one in my 12 long (36" wide) and it was way too much flow. I tried one at the lowest setting in my IM10 and it blew the sand around like crazy Link to comment

DVaDeR77
Hydor 425 used one in my BC14 nice little power head but is not controllable Link to comment
ReefWeeds
+1 for koralia. You can go mp10 but they're significantly more expensive. It sometimes takes more than 25 minutes to get a response Link to comment
VW_TDI_02
I have two in my 20L and they work just fine. Have them on 3/10 and haven't had any issues. I'm also using some larger sand (CaribSea Special Grade) and it works really well. Obviously you don't want it pointed directly at your corals but I don't see them being too powerful for that size tank. Link to comment
AZDesertRat
Get the RW-4 and a reducing power supply to slow it down. Fish-Street used to sell them I believe, on the WP-10 and WP-25 they were very popular. Link to comment
Tamberav
Too powerful, I have a RW-4 and no way I would put that in my IM10. Keep in mind, a controllable power head won't give you that much control because the tank is so small you will have to run it on a low setting. In such a small tank, you can keep a variety of corals without needing much of anything fancy. Some people just use a powerful return pump and a spin stream successfully. Link to comment
jeffmr4
The gyre pumps look pretty neat. But I don't think they make one for a tank this size. Link to comment

I think the RW-4 on a low setting and even better with the reducing power supply would do fine. Another idea would be to simply look up other builds using that tank and see what they use. Clown79
I have the im10. I upgraded the return pump to an mj900, used the spin stream with it but went back to the original nozzle(more flow that way) and I added a hydor pico. From what I have read, when you adjust the PH you're interested in to the lowest settings, you lose the controllability of it. So you will be paying $$$ for a ph that you won't be getting the most out of. Link to comment

I have herd bad things about the bracket, do you find it to work well? noisy? Link to comment
NYfishies
I run a MP10QD in my 10 Gallon (not IM, even more shallow) at 80%. I would think the RW4 would be fine in a IM10. I used one of those in my IM 40 and it was not enough. I will add that I had the wire to control the RW4 with my Apex so not sure how much better that is than using the controller it comes with. Clown79
The pico is 100gph but I upgraded the return pump and rely on that mostly for flow. The bracket that came with mine is fairly big, if I had known it came with 4" bracket- i would have gone with the smallest hydor powerhead instead. The huge bracket defeats the purpose of the tiny pico. Unfortunately I saw no brackets on hydors site or anywhere on the net. Everything shows suction cups only. There are 3 or 4 pico's available. There is no noise from the pico, or my hydors, or sicce. The mj900 makes an aggravating humming/buzzing sound. Sicce has good pumps. Link to comment
jshev
Ok, after much deliberation and debate (in my head) I have decided to purchase a Tunze 6040. I think that powerhead will give me the control I want with a small size. This powerhead could also suit my needs if I ever get a larger tank. Link to comment
jshev
Ok, so I changed my mind after tons of youtube videos and research and bought a Tunze 6040. Now Im thinking about buying a new return pump. This way I can use the stock pump for water changes. Please give me advice on a silent pump that would fit in a Nuvo IM 10gallon fusion. Thanks Link to comment
Clown79
The only ones i know that fit in the 10g Sicce Cobalt/maxijet Rio-i returned mine because it was like a jet engine in my tank. Link to comment
HarryPotter
New Jebao DC650 will fit I believe. Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Not a fan of cheap Chinese knock offs. I would recommend the Tunze Nanostream 6040. Love mine. Just read that you bought a 6040! Haha. great choice Link to comment
pewpewkittah
PP-4 (RW-4). I use it in my IM10, but it has to be positioned precisely so that it does not blow sand around. I've heard lots of people using the RW-4 in IM10's with a 12V power supply to limit the output. I have a variety of corals and they all are doing fabulously. Link to comment

Thanks The Tunze 1073 or the Sicce .5 would work well for an upgraded return pump. PP-4 (RW-4). I use it in my IM10, but it has to be positioned precisely so that it does not blow sand around. I have my RW-4 running on 12V instead of the 24V power supply it comes with. I finally got it into a happy place for the corals and flow of my tank, mixed reef with acro and LPS, It is below the drain for the IM 10 and pointed towards the surface and front of the tank. Im still happy I bought it though because eventually I want to move all my stuff to a 30 gallon tank. Great looking power head though! Link to comment
Saultman
MP10 in a small tank i think works well broad water flow and doesn't take up much space Link to comment

I will always use tunze powerheads from now on.I like how you can hide it behind rock and it pushes flow around corners or overtop of the aquascape. Right now I have one in a 29g tank at about 35% power. Its perfect. Link to comment
