I wouldn't attempt to put the next batch in with the first hatch at this point. You will want to start them out in their own tank with current or fresh water conditions.

6 DPH - All four are still alive! They looks like they are eating and growing but I'm not really sure. If they stay alive I conclude they must be eating. lol.

I was going to skip BBS but since I can't tell if they are eating the TDO, I decide to hatch a batch of BBS yesterday. Harvested today so they are young and will feed them today. Let see if they react to them.

My worry will be this weekend. Kids and I are going camping so it's up to my wife to take care of them. Forget metamorphosis phase, if they survive this weekend with my wife it will be a miracle! Praying for the little guys. :-)

11 DPH - All four are still alive and starting to go through Meta. One of them already made it through and got his head band. A second one looks to be getting his. Hopefully all four will make it through. So exciting!

Here's a short video of the one with the head band.

12 DPH - Fantastic Four doing good. Looks like two more got their first stripe but they seems to just hanging around the glass and not swimming around.

Should I be concern?

Started up another round of BBS since I can not tell from their reaction when I put in the TDO. I did see the biggest one eat a BBS yesterday so I know he's eating them.

Just keeping up the normal routine of changing water, dripping in new water and watching my ammonia level.

So cool seeing these little guys grow each day. :-)

13 DPH - All are alive but I'm a little worried. All of them are just hanging around in separate corners against the glass. I have stop tinting the water and put in TDO and BBS but I don't see them actively chasing down the food. I hope I'm not starving them.

On a side note, my next batch should be hatching tomorrow night so going to try to raise them too. I only got a 2.5 gal tank left so they might not survive. Well I guess it's either they get eaten or be lucky enough to survive the confined space.

14 DPH - Do the fry start fighting this young? I've notice when one of them actually chased off another one when the second one entered his little corner. Amazing. Already bickering like siblings. :-)

Yeah... it's all burned into their DNA... what's worse is raising Maroons - they have huge clutches and they fight like there is no tomorrow.

Truly is amazing. It must be in their DNA because the two biggest one are constantly at each other. The other two just hangs out someone else and stays out of their way. Here's a video of the two fighting. They were at it the entire day.

They are just so interesting to watch. My kids just loves them. I hope they don't start naming them. Once they do, I don't think I will be able to just give them away. :-)

Okay. Still trying to figure out how to add photos here. :-)

I thought I had it figured out with Picasa but image is not coming through.

No new changes but I need to start looking at setting up a grow-out tank for these guys. I got an old Nano Cube 10g I could set up for this. Size wise it is not any bigger than the fry tank at the moment. Will this be okay?

My other thought was to just buy a HOB filter and convert the fry tank into a grow-out tank. I've read somewhere, maybe on this site, that that was not a good idea.

So I guess I can start getting some live rocks and start setting up the grow-out so that it will be ready in a few weeks.

Also at what point do I move the fry over? Is 1 month too early?

I honestly don't know when the best time to move them over is... Personally I would set up a separate tank for grow out so you can have another bunch starting in this tank. I'm glad to hear your kids are enjoying it. I know I would when I was a kid, and am now as a "grown up". If I had my own house I'd probably be doing stuff like this...

Thanks. The kids are loving helping out and seeing the baby interact. It a lot of work but I think the reward is definitely worth it if we can get them to adulthood.

If you ever end up trying, please create a thread. Love to follow other people's work and share our knowledge and experiences.

I think I'm going to set up my old Nanocube this weekend with maybe a couple of live rocks. Let it cycle through a few week and then move them over.

I also got another clutch that hatched last Saturday. I used a 2.5 gal tank I used for quarantine and am raising them there. Scooped up about 33 of them but am down to 10. It's been at 10 since day 2 and we're at day 5 now. Hopefully I won't lose many through meta phase. It would be nice to have a few more little ones swimming around.

This time I'm trying something a little different with the lighting. Instead of lights on 24 hrs for first week, I am going with 17 hrs on and 7 hrs off.

I would consider picking up another small tank for you next hatch as I fear the flow in the nano might be too much. I'd also be concerned about them getting through to the rear chambers. Worst case you could run the nano cube with a hob on the side and a small koralia or whatever for some flow until they get bigger.

Thanks Pickle. I have a really old Rio that I was going to use for the return pump on the Nano. I was thinking it may produce a small enough flow the fry can handle. As for the rear chamber, I was thinking putting a mesh over the surface skimmer to prevent them from getting sucked into the back.

I'm going to set it up today and see. If I feel it's too much, I'll just get an HOB.

Sorry about the picture above. I decided to move the picture in photobucket and that probably broke the link.

Just an update, the Fantastic Four are still rocking around 5 weeks now. I also set up my old Nano Cube for the younger Fab Five last weekend. They seem to like the bigger tank compare to the 2.5 gal I raised them in. It still amazes me what a difference in size being only 2 weeks apart.

Thanks. I will probably give them away to local hobbyist or get some store credit from one of the LFS in town when they are a little bigger. Then the kids and I will start all over again. I like raising these little guys. :-)
