interchanging bulbs

this might be a stupid question, but i'm just not sure.

 

i'm getting a 70 watt HQI for my 5 gallon. i know the difference between the kelvin ratings on the bulbs, but if i started with a 10k bulb and later wanted to switch to a 20k, can i keep the same lighting unit and just switch out the bulbs given they are both 70 watts.

Minor caveat:

if you use a magnetic ballast, there is a difference between "pulse start" and ... the other kind of start (it's too late for me to be awake and posting...).

If the ballast is electronic you're in the clear.
